SELF IDENTITY, SELF CONCEPT & SELF AWARENESS

Your identity is not solely based on your sex, your size, your clothes, your grades, your looks, your hair, your house, your family, your money, your opinions or any other aspects society constantly uses to place us in a 'box'.

In a world where it seems we are constantly told what we have to look like, how we should act, and what side of a topic we should be on, it can be confusing and overwhelming to know what our values are, what we want to do in life, who our true friends are, what will our future look like and what is our purpose. In all of this, the question is often 'who am I'?

What seems like such a simple question can sometimes bring us to tears. Especially as from one week to the next, sometimes even one day to the next, our feelings about ourselves change.

One day you can be happy with your body, the next day you hate it. Yesterday you were full of confidence, today you feel like a failure. Last week you had a plan and hope for what you will do in life, now you feel as I have no options. This is normal. The ups and downs of adolescence, the emotions, the feelings (or sometimes lack thereof), the constant thoughts can all be unsettling at the best, soul destroying at worst.

But it's not all doom and gloom. The joy of being young is that it is OK to have these ups and downs. It's ok to not have all the answers, to not know what your future holds, to not know where you stand on a subject and to not know how you feel about yourself. It's when it becomes overwhelming and affects your quality of living, that it's time to reach out for help.

As we talk together, you will start to understand what is important to you, why it is important, what your own personal opinions are and why you make the decisions you do. You will start to see that your identity and self-worth is not based on what you see, your past, what others think of you and even what you think of yourself. As we do this, you will start to form a clear picture of who you really are. Once you know who you are, what is important to you, what your values are and why you are so significant and indeed needed in this world, you will be happier, more confident and have a sense of freedom which you've likely never known. You will form your own indentity and be able to stand strong in it.  I look forward to helping you find that amazing, confident, healthy and happy young peson who is hiding deep down inside. The person God has planned for you to be.
